About this Event
The Waynflete Singers conclude their 50th anniversary year with a performance of Handel's perennial crowd-pleasing oratorio, 'Messiah'. Written in 1741, when Handel decided to abandon composition of Italian operas and to focus instead on works in English based on biblical texts, the potent mix of tuneful arias and rousing choruses has proved irresistible to singers and audiences ever since. The performance will be accompanied by regular partners Florilegium; their peerless baroque music credentials, guided by Andrew Lumsden, will guarantee a suitably celebratory finale to our anniversary year.
