About this Event

The Waynflete Singers perform Bruckner's Mass in F minor, a work composed in 1867 as a thanksgiving for his return to health after a long-term depressive-obsessive illness. Bruckner revised the work several times after its completion, his final revision being in 1893. Of all his settings of the Mass, the F minor is the biggest, a work which combines the classical structures of Haydn and Mozart with the lyricism of Schubert and the adventurousness of Liszt and Wagner. The soloists include two Waynflete Prizewinners from the 2019 Grange Festival Singing Competition: Kiandra Howarth (soprano) and Jaeil Kim (tenor).

Before the Bruckner we are delighted to welcome the internationally acclaimed cellist Natalie Clein, who will perform Haydn's Cello Concerto no. 1. A former BBC Young Musician winner, her passionate performances of the cello repertoire with orchestras around the world have earned her the admiration of both audiences and critics. We are certain that her appearance with Andrew Lumsden and the English Chamber Orchestra in Winchester Cathedral will be a particular highlight of our anniversary year.
