The performers in the Anvil

After a performance with the Waynflete Singers I always need a few hours to 'come down' - but this evening is subtly different.

Today we were the main chorus at the Anvil, Basingstoke singing Leonard Bernstein's Mass - which is 'Biblical' in nearly every way... almost all of the other musicians, singers and dancers were kids. Such a lot of energy, preparation and concentration ... hours of sitting on stage during 'blazing June' rehearsals - even for the primary school choir.

But how special was the end result! As our conductor, Carl Clausen said "adrenalin will iron out one or two corners" and then some... - the whole performance, including our kazoo-playing debut, became a piece of art, and the energy and talent of the performers lifted the event above our normal experience to something really special.

I am proud to have been part of it - this is what making music with the 'Youth' of today is all about. Thank you for the experience kids - I shall treasure it.
