Singing for Ukraine

The Waynflete Singers paused their rehearsal last Thursday to raise their voices for Ukraine and collect funds for the Disaster and Emergency Committee. Over a hundred singers sang with heartfelt emotion in the Ukrainian language, in solidarity with the people of Ukraine.

Waynflete Singers singing the Ukrainian national anthemWith less than 24 hours' notice, the choir were sent copies of the music with the Cyrillic words phonetically transcribed. The recording of the singing was completed in just two takes, with many members of the choir describing it as a deeply moving experience. The video has been shared on the Waynflete's Facebook and Twitter pages, as well as loaded on to YouTube.

Commenting afterwards, deputy chair Sarah Jones stated that "It felt important to respond quickly to the emergency in Ukraine and the desperate plight of the Ukrainian people. Through our singing we have already raised a significant amount for DEC, and it is humbling to know that our video has been shared and seen by volunteers on the ground in in Lviv".
